RES Scholars Using Social Media to Share and Connect
Being a daily Twitter user, I've recently been seeing many tweets coming out of the Richmond Elementary School library (@RESVTlibrary). Students are creating video book trailers and tweeting them out to the Twitterverse. Beth Redford, RES Librarian, and Darcie Rankin, RES Enrichment Teacher have been working on this project with fourth grade students. Beth Redford says, "We share work like book trailers on social media sites like YouTube and Twitter so scholars have an authentic audience for their work. This way families, other members of the school community, and the world in general can see how much our scholars have learned and how awesomely creative they are." Powerful stuff.
The serendipitous benefit is that some of the books' authors are seeing these posts, and responding back. Beth tells me, "Many authors and illustrators use social media and sometimes they see the book trailers and give positive feedback! It's always a thrill to hear a celebrity like an author thinks your work is good."
